TEAM Challenge is a four week program designed for children ages 6-18 who are under current medical care for obesity, are at high risk for developing obesity, or those parents simply interest in promoting healthy lifestyles for their children. This cutting edge program already successful at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA, is designed to help kids and teenagers learn new behaviors that can support and help maintain permanent weight loss. Incorporating presentations by licensed professionals in Physical Therapy, Nutrition and Psychology, this multi-disciplinary approach includes exercise, nutrition, education, and behavior modification methods.
Each TEAM Challenge session is 90 minutes of action, education and fun involving both kids and their parents.
Research shows that the most successful pediatric weight-management programs have strong parental involvement and support. That's why TEAM Challenge encourages children, teenagers, and their parents to work together to learn how to set goals for physical activity and how to make healthy nutritional choices, even on-the-run!
MANAGING EATING BEHAVIORS AND DEVELOPING SELF-ESTEEM
Over the course of the program, participants explore how to develop an individualized eating plan based on the latest nutritional information and adapted to today's busy lifestyles.
In addition, children join in group activities with Psychologist, where they explore such topics as developing a healthy body image, how to deal with teasing from peers, and how to manage eating behaviors for long-term success.
